You don't have your TIAS posted to your site correctly so I'm putting the comments here.
Was the restaurant being so popular the only reason he got selected to be in the hall of fame? I'm sure it was much more than that. Just having a popular restaurant can't be the only reason. 3.7 out of 4.
I've known Mark since high school and he was as good of a guy then as he is now. I think it's fantastic that he received this award as he is totally deserving of it. I'm glad you both chose to do this story about him. Your script is good as it gives us a little background on Mark and this history of Mark's Place. You also get to learn about how he started being an instructor at KCC. He runs a very successful program at the college. Who would have guessed that that one class would stretch now to several years of teaching! We also get to see what kind of person he is. Kudos to you for interviewing his parents! I'm sure they are very proud of him as well. They explain how he's willing to help the community which I'm sure was one of the reasons he was chosen for this honor. I would like to know more about this award though. What are some of the qualifications that someone has to have to be nominated for it? In doing a quick Google search right now, I found this..."The inductees are select individuals who have “demonstrated dedication and commitment to the growth of the restaurant and food service industry in Hawaii, contributed to the enhancement of its quality and image, and demonstrated service through outreach.”
Proceeds will benefit the HRA Scholarship Program at the University of Hawaii Community Colleges." I'm sure you could have found the same info if you did the same. Maybe you did. If so, it would have been nice to add a little more info about this award.
Another thing I like is getting his and his wife's reaction to the award right away. Usually that comes later in the story but it was a good choice to put that up front. However, I do wish you would have spent a little more time explaining what Mark's Place is all about. You barely mention that he also does catering through Contemporary Flavors, his other business that is tied to Mark's Place. And what is Mark's Place? I can assume that it is a restaurant but what are they known for? You don't even ask the customer what she thought of the food. Technically, Mark's Place is more of a takeout place. He doesn't have room to sit inside of the location as all he has are wooden tables outside on the grass in front.
You did a nice job in the KCC part. I like how you interviewed his former student and now boss. I already mentioned I like how you interviewed his parents.
The last VO is ok but while his friends and family are proud of him, I think what stands out more is his dedication and commitment to not only his business, but his community and his students at KCC. He also serves on several boards in the community as well which wasn't mentioned. I think that saying that instead of people being proud of him is a better way to say that he's deserving of this award. Does that make sense? If you listed the many things he's done and then followed that up with your last sentence about how he's so deserving of this award, it matches more. Being proud does not mean he's deserving of the award.
Overall it's a nice story about a wonderful man in our community and I commend you both for doing it on him. The story is pretty good although I do wish more info was shared. This is a 3.7 or an A-. Nice job!
I loved quarter 2. Can't wait until quarter 3.
